Should review of your qualifications result in a decision to pursue your candidacy, you will be contacted.---------------------Summary:Part-time (10 to 25 hours per week) tutors support student success by utilizing a personalized approach to help each student gain a deeper understanding of course material, devise effective learning strategies, engage in critical thinking, and acquire additional academic skills in order to help the student reach educational goals. Tutors may meet with students on an individual or small group basis on campus and/or online. Tutors are provided College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) training and are expected to obtain certification within one year of employment. Tutors are also expected to participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development activities, promptly respond to correspondence from Learning Center staff, and maintain complete and accurate records. Additional responsibilities may be assigned.Writing tutors must have excellent reading and writing skills, patience, and an ability to coach students in writing college-level papers for a range of courses, including developmental English, composition, literature, social sciences, and the sciences. Knowledge ofMLAandAPAcitation formats and experience working withESLstudents preferred.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or higher in Writing, Rhetoric, Composition,ESL, English/American Literature, or related field from a regionally accredited Institution required. Experience as a peer or professional tutor preferred. A writing sample must be included with application material for a candidate to be considered for this position. Special Instructions:The number of tutors hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department and the College.
