Located just 2.5 hours from Philadelphia and 1.5 hours from New York City, this 1,100-acre pristine Pocono Mountain oasis is where campers have FUN, develop lifelong skills, build character, make lasting friendships, and connect with the natural world. Camp Speers serves as a regional day camp, coed residential camp, and special needs camp (Dragonfly Forest) all as an all-inclusive Y camp experience unlike any other in Pennsylvania and serves as a destination camp for the surrounding communities and beyond. Its huge fields, hiking trails, 90-acre lake, outdoor amphitheater, horseback riding facility, playground and art/activity structures, ropes course, and archery center provide an environment that builds self-confidence, strengthens independence, and forges relationships. It's not just children who benefit from the high ropes, canoeing, fishing, archery, horseback riding and wildlife/nature encounters. Camp Speers also plays host to business/organization retreats and conferences, providing exciting, educational, and adventurous activities to create group cohesion and team development. In addition, Camp Speers operates during the off-season providing afterschool programming, family adventure days, teen leadership programs and a host of other enrichment activities in addition the occasional wedding. Successful candidates will have a passion to work with campers, support the vision and capital campaign goals for the Y and Camp Speers, and have a commitment to excellence in every aspect of the services we provide. POSITION PURPOSE
The Executive Director oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of Camp Speers including Dragonfly Forest; our two-week Camp Philly residential c& our Camp Speers Residential Camp and also supports Day Camp Operations, while promoting and representing the mission and values of the YMCA. The Executive Director will also oversee all special groups, our outdoor education program and any business and or after school adventure days. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
--- Manage fiscal operations and ensure attainment of budgetary objectives; manage all financial record keeping, trends and reporting. Analyze trends and determine cost effectiveness of programs and services. Ensure prudent fiscal management of all resources and adherence to policies and procedures.
--- Supervise 10 direct reports.
--- Assist all Camp Directors and Staff in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, training and supervising of all camp staff while adhering to legal and ACA/YMCA standards.
--- Works with the camp administrative team on developing and implementing the pre-camp training schedule.
--- Provide opportunities for specialized staff training sessions including, but not limited to rabies, behavior management, child abuse recognition report training, risk management and all Health Department standards.
--- Work with camp administrative team on unit placement of staff appropriately.
--- Build community resources through the cultivation and development of relationships. Actively engage members, volunteers and community leaders in the Y mission.
--- Develop a productive board of volunteers and build effective leadership for the branch and mission. Effectively utilize resources in fund raising and community engagement planning.
--- Create a positive staff environment where diverse staff members can work together to provide programs and services. Develop and recognize staff to ensure continuous improvement, encouraging ongoing education and training of staff.
--- Oversee the physical plant of the facility and oversee the implementation of the preventative maintenance activities. Ensure that facility is maintained to provide positive image and member experience at all times.
--- Create a member focus in all operations. Ensure that all programs represent high quality YMCA programs and provide experiences that exceed member expectations.
--- Monitor trends and developments in legislation, funding, markets, demographics and community needs to ensure that Camps continue to deliver cost effective programs.
--- Serve as a member of the Association and Camp Management Team.
ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
--- Bachelor's degree in related field with 5-10 years of related experience.
--- Leadership in branch operations/facility management required.
--- Experience in developing and motivating volunteer staff.
--- Excellent fiscal management skills and ability to identify funding opportunities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word to impart oral information and to convey detailed, spoken instructions to staff, members, children, and volunteers accurately, quickly, and loudly. Ability to perceive the nature of sounds by ear; ability to lift and carry 50-75 pounds; ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling. Ability to move about on foot quickly; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where they actually are and clearly see at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The physical environment requires the employee to possibly work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure such as hearing protection and rubber gloves. Acquire and maintain the following certifications:
--- CPR/AED/O2 (valid 2 years with exception of Aquatics to renew annually), First Aid (valid 2 years) obtained through the American Red Cross
--- Requisite OSHA online trainings (valid 1 year unless otherwise noted)
--- Mandated Reporter Training (valid 5 years)
--- Additional training and development specific to your role as reference in onboarding packet.
