make an impact in this role?The Global Compliance & Ethics
(GC&E) organization establishes the framework for American
Express' global compliance risk management program commensurate
with the size, complexity and risk profile of the entity. As an
independent risk management function, GC&E is responsible for
overseeing the organization's compliance with regulatory
expectations through a combination of monitoring and testing
activities.The Director of Program Oversight Quality Assurance is a
new role that will be responsible for building and overseeing a
quality assurance program that ensures consistent monitoring
activities occur across the GC&E organization. This role is
essential in assisting GC&E in evolving the compliance risk
management program to ensure the organization adheres to all
relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.The ideal
candidate will have expertise in deploying value added independent
testing activities, providing constructive and sensitive feedback,
and in building relationships to drive ongoing process
improvements.Key Responsibilities:
- Build a global team of professionals from the ground up.
- Partner with the broader GC&E to define the standards and
deliverables to evidence a robust regulatory monitoring
program.
- Drive awareness of regulatory oversight requirements across the
organization, ensuring alignment and accountability.
- Design and execution of a quality assurance program that
provides timely and value-added feedback that drives process
improvements and best practices.
- Develop reporting that measures and escalates, where
appropriate, the results across GC&E.
- Lead and develop a high-performing Regulatory Compliance team,
fostering a culture of compliance excellence and continuous
improvement.
- Uses understanding of relevant general laws, regulations and
standards (e.g., Heightened Standards, FRB LFI, UK SMR) affecting
risk management of large banks, so risk practices comply with
overall regulatory frameworks and expectations.
- Designs, oversees, or substantively participates in risk
governance structures, supporting clear accountability and
decision-making frameworks that align with organizational
objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Makes unbiased decisions and judgments, free from external
pressures or conflicts of interest, showing integrity and
objectivity.
- Analyzes complex situations, identifies patterns and draws
meaningful conclusions to perform logical and well-structured
evaluations.
- Develops and maintains practices and reporting to enable
accurate and thorough records of risk management activities,
supporting accountability and traceability throughout the risk
management process.
- Communicates risk data, trends and analysis through structured
reports, so key stakeholders, including the board of directors and
senior leadership, receive timely, aggregate, accurate, complete
and relevant information.Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Compliance, Business, or a related
field required; JD or Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of overall experience in risk management
with a minimum of 5 years' experience in testing activities (i.e.
quality assurance, independent testing, auditing, exams).
- Professional regulatory compliance certification preferred
(CRMC, CAMS, CCEP, CIPP)
- Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills
with the ability to convey testing results clearly and concisely to
senior leadership.
- Strategic thinking and a being able to act independently in
driving day to day operations.
- Proven track record of managing programs and improving
processes within a regulated environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and
prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate
with stakeholders at all levels.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements issued by CFPB,
Federal Reserve, FDIC and OCC.Salary Range: $130,000.00 to
$205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefitsThe
above represents the expected salary range for this job
