Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Stepdown - Discipline: RN - Duration: 13 weeks - 40 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days, nights - Employment Type: Travel Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Stepdown Location: New York, NY Shift: Day or Night | 3x12s | 7AM-7:30PM | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM Every Other Weekend (EOW) is Required Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Stepdown Unit, where you will provide safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care to patients transitioning from critical care. As a Clinical Nurse, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team delivering high-quality patient care rooted in the principles of Relationship Centered Care. Your role will encompass direct patient care, patient education, quality improvement, and collaboration with colleagues and families to support recovery and discharge planning. Key Responsibilities: Patient Care: Deliver care based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Apply critical thinking in patient assessments, planning, interventions, and evaluations. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in developing and managing care plans. Educate patients and families on care plans, transitions, and health promotion. Delegate appropriately and manage workflow efficiently within the Modified Primary Nursing model. Patient Experience: Foster therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Utilize Mount Sinai’s Relationship Centered Care practices (e.g., bedside shift report, medication review). Listen actively and show empathy, compassion, and respect. Conduct Purposeful Hourly Rounding (PHR) and provide exceptional service recovery when needed. Quality & Safety: Practice within all hospital safety and infection control protocols. Escalate safety concerns appropriately and follow high reliability safety practices. Participate in quality improvement projects and nursing research initiatives. Document accurately and thoroughly using institutional systems (EPIC preferred). Operations: Act as charge nurse as needed. Ensure appropriate use of supplies and escalate staffing or inventory concerns. Promote cost-effective care and patient throughput. Professional Development: Contribute to a positive work environment that supports professional growth. Engage in ongoing education and evidence-based practice activities. Participate in shared governance, councils, and committees. Demonstrate professional ethics, leadership, and a spirit of inquiry.
