Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Stepdown - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 05/04/2026 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel Job Title: Registered Nurse – Step Down Telemetry Location: Elmira, NY Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (03/15/2026 – 06/13/2026) Shift: Night Shift (19:00 – 07:30) | 12.5-Hour Shifts Unit: 5D Step Down Tele (6040) Job Summary A 256-bed tertiary medical facility in the Twin Tiers region, is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for its newly remodeled 5D unit. This 24-bed unit is uniquely versatile, functioning as a primary telemetry ward with the capability to manage up to 8 step-down patients at a time. The unit features spacious private rooms and operates under a Team Nursing model, emphasizing collaboration and high-acuity care for cardiac and respiratory patients . Key Responsibilities - Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive head-to-toe assessments, with a focus on hemodynamic stability and neurological status for stroke/post-surgical patients. - Cardiac Monitoring: Monitor and interpret continuous telemetry strips; 5D specializes in cardiac rhythm management for both medical and post-procedural patients. - Titration & Med Admin: Safely administer medications and manage titratable infusions (e.g., cardene, diltiazem) as per step-down protocols. - Care Planning: Develop and implement goal-directed interdisciplinary care plans. - Team Nursing: Collaborate within a team structure where RNs, LPNs, and support staff work collectively to manage patient cohorts. Requirements & Qualifications - Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience in a Telemetry or Step-down setting. - Licensure: Active New York State (NYS) RN License. - Certifications: * ACLS (AHA) required. - BLS (AHA) required. - Physical Demands: Ability to perform frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting as required for patient mobilization and equipment transport. Assignment Details & Ratios - Unit Capacity: 24 Telemetry beds (8 Step-down capable). - Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: * Step-down: 1:3 - Standard Telemetry (Days): 1:5 - Standard Telemetry (Nights): 1:7 - Environment: The unit is known for its supportive, teamwork-heavy atmosphere. Rooms are private with en-suite showers, prioritizing patient dignity and infection control.
