The primary focus of the Surgical Technician in the Operating
Room setting is to assume responsibility and accountability for
providing safe, effective, care of patients undergoing surgical
procedures. A surgical technician assists physicians during
surgical procedures in the Operating Room. He or she works under
the supervision of RN's and surgeons as a member of the operating
room team. This shift is Full Time Days with 1-2 day Rotation to
Evening Shift per pay period with Call
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Specialized training as OR technician required.
- Certification as a Surgical Technician required.
- Minimum of one year experience in Operating Room
Collaborates with the surgical team to assure appropriate care
and safe use of instrumentation, supplies and equipment during
Assures effective communication with the RN circulator, charge
nurse, patient, and surgeon and Anesthesia staff.
Demonstrates an understanding of aseptic principles by
maintaining the integrity, safety and efficiency of the sterile
Prepares the operating room for the scheduled procedure by
providing surgical equipment that is functioning properly and
Initiates preparation and readiness of the sterile field by
aseptically opening supplies and equipment.
Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of all instruments, equipment
and supplies by proper assembly and preparation for use prior to
the start of the procedure.
Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and/or assistant during
Follows policy consistently on properly handling and identifying
of specimens and communicates to surgeon to assure correct
Follows Hospital policy consistently for sponge, needle and
instrument counts for each case
Assists with training of new staff members as needed.
Participates in identification of the patients and undivided
attention with completion of the Time Out process
