GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the designee or nurse in charge of the
nursing unit, the Resident Care Assistant performs basic and
repetitive nursing services, assists in carrying out routine
assignments, transporting and preparing residents and equipment and
keeping equipment and areas in an orderly hygienic condition as
directed.
Assigned duties are implemented in a manner appropriate to the
age-specific needs of the individuals served. Resident Care
Assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills
necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients
served on his/her unit.
Type of supervision exercised: none. Jobs reporting to this
position: none.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
No experience necessary.
SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Must be cleared either State Police and/or FBI Check according to
Act 169 regulations.
Must pass post-offer pre-placement physical exam; and initial and
subsequent annual TB screenings required.
Must adhere to established company/program policies and procedures
and regulations relating to safety and infection control.
Must be sixteen years of age or older (will work within
restrictions of child labor law).
CPR Certification preferred.
Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal
skills required for effective interaction (including promoting and
maintaining positive relationships) with patients, visitors or
other personnel.
Must adhere to nursing policies and standards and maintain
confidentiality of patient information.
Must be willing to rotate to other units as necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Light work: duties require exerting up to 20 lbs. of force
occasionally (approx 10-33% of shift), and/or up to 10 lbs. of
force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or a negligible
amount of force constantly to move, lift, carry, push, and pull
objects.
Position involves bending, reaching, and stooping (occasionally in
strained position) throughout shift.
Ability to transport self throughout facility is required.
ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS:
Occasional exposure to blood and body substances.
Exposure to needle sticks possible.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Majority of work is performed in the resident living area.
Work area may also include transportation van and resident external
appointment sites.
