Quality Systems Specialist is responsible for supporting the
implementation, auditing, and continuous improvement of food safety
and quality management systems. This role plays a key part in
maintaining compliance with regulatory, customer, and internal
standards through system audits, documentation, training, and
corrective action tracking. Additionally, the Quality Systems
Specialist is accountable for verifying that all finished products
meet established quality and safety standards prior to release,
ensuring only compliant products are approved for distribution. The
ideal candidate has experience in food safety systems and quality
compliance and is highly detail-oriented and process-driven. Key
Responsibilities: Assist in the development, implementation, and
auditing of the food safety and quality management system (e.g.,
HACCP, FSMA, FSSC 2200, ISO 9001) Support internal audits and
sanitation inspections; document non-conformances and follow up on
corrective actions Help ensure the factory operates in compliance
with FDA regulations, customer requirements, and third-party
certifications Assist in preparing and delivering training related
to food safety, quality procedures, and hygiene practices Assist in
the development and formatting of new procedures and controlled
templates Investigate customer complaints and non-conformances;
document root causes and recommend corrective actions Maintain and
manage document control systems for Standard Operating Procedures
(SOPs), forms, logs, specifications, and policies Responsible for
the review of production records, quality records, raw material
acceptance, finished product inspection reports and other records,
and confirming that the raw materials, manufacturing processes and
finished products meet the quality standards. Responsible for the
release of finished products. Follow all company policies and
procedures related to safety, food safety, and quality standards,
including GMPs, PPE requirements, and hazard reporting Perform all
other duties or tasks as assigned by management to support
departmental or company objectives. Key Performance Indicators
(KPIs): Internal Audit Non-Conformance Rate: Percentage of
non-conformances identified during audits and timely closure of
corrective actions. Customer Complaint Resolution Timeliness: Speed
and accuracy in investigating and resolving customer complaints.
Document Control Accuracy: Percentage of controlled documents
maintained error-free and updated within prescribed revision
cycles. Audit Readiness Rate: Speed and completeness of document
retrieval during audits to demonstrate compliance. Finished Product
Release Timeliness and Accuracy: Percentage of finished products
released on time and in full compliance with quality standards.
Required Qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree
in food science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field, or
equivalent experience 2–4 years of experience in quality assurance,
food safety, or regulatory compliance in the food/beverage industry
Working knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, Food Defense, and other food
safety management systems (e.g., SQF, BRC, ISO 22000) PCQI
certification preferred Skills & Competencies: Detail-oriented with
strong documentation and follow-up skills Ability to conduct
audits, identify risks, and track corrective actions Proficient in
Microsoft Office and QMS/document control software Effective
communicator and trainer at all organizational levels Knowledge of
chemical handling, labeling, and inventory procedures Pittston
