other weekend. - Flexibility for schedule changes. - Willingness to
train for charge nurse responsibilities. - Ability to float to
similar units as needed. Description: We are hiring for an RN Psych
position in a 25-bed acute inpatient psychiatry unit. The unit
staffs a minimum of 5 personnel for 18-25 patients. Staffing
includes 3 licensed staff members and 2 additional staff who may be
licensed personnel or Mental Health Assistants (MHAs). The RN Psych
will be trained for three roles: charge nurse, admission nurse, and
medication nurse. One RN will work in a charge nurse role,
overseeing the shift's operations. Another RN will oversee all
admissions during their shift. The medication nurse is responsible
for administering medications to all patients. RN or LPN staff may
also assist in the MHA role when needed. MHAs conduct rounds, take
vital signs, distribute patient trays, provide care, and facilitate
patient groups. All staff will take patient assignments and partake
in patient groups, rounding, and vital sign checks. The
patient-to-staff ratio can be as high as 5:1 but is often lower.
The patient population includes individuals with acute psychosis
presentations such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia,
and suicidal or homicidal ideation. Emergency medical issues
require contacting emergency services, followed by transport to an
emergency department. Restraints will only be used as a last resort
after all de-escalation techniques have failed. All nursing and
clinical staff are trained to manage restraints, with security
